A BOOKMAKERS in Peterborough has been robbed this morning (Wednesday, February 3).

At 10.20am the force control room was called to Tote Sport in Broadway after a man threatened staff. He took cash from the counter and more from the safe.

He ran from the bookmakers and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police conducted an area search and a police dog and handler were sent to the scene but no arrests have been made.

The robber is described as Asian, with a thin build, in his late 20s. He wore a balaclava, a green zip-up jacket, jeans and trainers.

Detective Inspector Neil Sloan said: "This man entered the shop and after threatening staff and took a quantity of cash. Thankfully no one was injured.

"He left on foot, running down Broadway towards John Lewis.

"We have crime scene investigators working at the bookmakers and we are looking through CCTV to help identify the offender.

"If anyone saw this man I would ask them to call police straight away."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DI Sloan at Thorpe Wood Police Station on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
