Can I choose where I will be stationed?

You must fully appreciate that you are joining Cambridgeshire Constabulary and that you could be posted to anywhere within the County. Whilst we try to accommodate your own individual preference, you will be posted to wherever the need is greatest.

What shift patterns do you operate?

Cambridgeshire Constabulary operates a number of different shift patterns designed to meet force and divisional operational requirements. If you are successful through the recruitment process, you will in your ‘Offer of Appointment’ letter, be allocated a divisional posting and details of your exact station, relief and shift pattern will normally be notified to you during your first week of service.

What kind of training/induction programmes can I expect?

Your first two weeks with Cambridgeshire Constabulary will include contact with the Human Resource Department, Finance Department Training Team and Divisional welcome and introduction. The training areas covered in your first two weeks include Personal Safety, First Aid, Cambridgeshire Constabulary Computer Systems, Airwaves Radio System, Divisional Familiarisation, Driving Assessment and Stinger training.

Are Cambridgeshire Constabulary currently accepting transferees?

Cambridgeshire Constabulary is currently accepting transferees at the rank of Substantive Sergeant and Inspector. The number of Sergeant and Inspector vacancies may vary at different times of the year due to promotion boards being carried out.

I am a Constable at the moment, but I have passed both parts of my OSPRE examinations. Can I transfer in as a Sergeant?

No, we only accept level transfers. You can only apply for promotional opportunities when our promotion boards are advertised externally and you will be required to sit a promotion board panel. You can however level transfer to Cambridgeshire Constabulary when we are accepting transferees at the rank of Constable and apply for promotion when the relevant board is held internally.

How long does the recruitment process take?

The transferee process is currently taking approximately six months from initial application to being appointed. We try to group a number of transferees together in an intake and intakes are spaced out throughout the year. You would therefore start on the next available intake.

If I am female or a member of a minority group, will I be discriminated against?

Cambridgeshire Constabulary particularly welcome and encourage applications from female and ethnic minority groups as they are under represented. The principles of fair and open competition apply and appointments will be made on merit.

What will my salary scale be?

Cambridgeshire Constabulary adheres to the national pay scales and as such you will transfer on the same pay increment you currently receive.

What happens to my pension?

Under most circumstances, your pensionable service is directly transferable from one force to another. Therefore your pension transfers across with you, so long as you do not have a gap in your service. Your transfer will remain as continuous service. Your resignation from your current force will be from midnight of your last working day and you will commence service with Cambridgeshire Constabulary as of 12:01am on your start date.

How much annual leave am I entitled to? Can I carry any over?

Any current or previous service is recognised for annual leave purposes. If successful through the recruitment process, all transferees will receive a pro-rata entitlement upon appointment. However, you will be required to take all of your current entitlement in your current force as it will not be possible transfer outstanding leave not taken. In addition, time owed in lieu can not be transferred over. Every effort will be made to honour any pre-booked holiday, although this ultimately will be at the discretion of your supervisor.
