Choice hotline
Honour-based crimes can be complex and often go unreported because some victims do not feel they can approach the police.
The Cambridgeshire Constabulary Choice hotline (launched in June 2007) supports victims of honour-based violence and forced marriage. It is the second of its kind in the country, making it easier for victims to contact the police. The hotline is run by specially trained detectives. In an emergency, always dial 999.
Following the launch of the Choice hotline, calls to Cambridgeshire Constabulary about honour-based violence and forced marriage have more than doubled, from an average of six calls per month to 20 calls per month.
The honour-based violence hotline also deals with cases of forced marriage where one or both spouses do not consent to the marriage.
