This years theme :
This year the country has had to deal with a number of specific emergencies, from terrorist attacks, floods and more recently the foot and mouth disease. Neighbourhood Watch and other community groups have an important role to play in supporting the statutory services in responding to such emergencies. Therefore, the theme for this years conference will be around voluntary sector engagement and how Neighbourhood Watch can get involved in, and contribute to, emergency planning and response work.
The Constabulary is very keen that Neighbourhood Watch is firmly integrated and embedded into the Neighbourhood Policing programme. Vernon Coaker, Under-Secretary of State for Crime Reduction, came to explain the importance of Neighbourhood policing and how NHW members can move even further from a reactive to a proactive stance to ensure that they play an integral part of community engagement and delivery.
