Dog's blog - 09/03/2010

Hello!

I hope you’re well and this snowy weather we’ve been having is alright for you? I think it’s brill – me and my brothers love running around in it. Although Yeoman my German Shepherd brother, isn’t too well at the moment… he’s had to have a tiny bit of his tail chopped off again. It’s an old injury he got years ago before he became a police dog, but unfortunately it’s caused him some problems again. Dad says he’s absolutely fine, but he has to wear one of those funny cone things which he hates. It’s great for me and George though, we just try to hang off of it to play with him. It also makes it easier for me to steal Yeoman’s ball which I LOVE doing.

Well, haven’t I had a busy month since I last spoke to you? I went to another football game for Peterborough United, and dad also took me along to the train station there to get me used to being around loads of people bustling around. Oh and I saw loads of loud trains and dad said I was a good boy because I didn’t get scared by them. Of course I didn’t… I wanted to get on them!

Dog at computer

I met a lovely RSPCA inspector up at the dog unit. They like to pop in every so often to see that we’re all happy and well, although this one was quite playful so I gave him a little nibble on the hand, ha ha!

Dad took me to the vets to have my check ups. The vet was really nice to me and said I was doing really well and was probably going to grow up to be bigger than my brother Yeoman. I’m currently weighing in at 27 kilos. He was also very happy with my height and heart and everything else he checked.

Dog on a walk

My dad does look after me so well. I love going for the ride around in the van, it’s ever so comfy in there. We’ve all got air conditioning, fleecy beds and water bowls. The only thing we’re missing is a PS3… which is a ‘paw-station 3’!! I love it when we have to go out to jobs with dad. Obviously I’m still too young to do anything, but it’s always really exciting being in the car with the sirens going, and then I’m always so proud when Yeoman or George come back and have done a good job. I love my brothers.

Dog with trainer

I'll be so glad when I finally grow into my ears like all the other dogs at the dog unit. It feels like I am wearing a silly hat all the time! Dad says it’ll happen any day now.

I also had some more photos taken for a magazine the police are sending out to everyone in the county. It was great fun. It meant I got to play around with dad for a bit which I always love doing! My photo is going to be on the front AND the back cover, so look out for it soon and let me know what you think.

Mum and dad are going away in a few days, so I’ll get to spend the weekend at the dog unit with all the others dogs. Dad tells me that when the other dog handlers go away, the dogs all stay at the unit together. It’s sort of like Butlins for dogs… or ‘Woof-lins’! I’m very excited about that so I’ll tell you all about it next time.

Thanks ever so much for all the kind messages you have sent me. I’ve responded to you all under the ‘Bark-outs’ section so look out for yours.

I’ll speak to you again next month, and let’s hope this weather improves hey. I’ve never had so many baths!

Lots of love,
