How to apply your right of Subject Access

Most UK police forces operate in a similar way to Cambridgeshire. However, you should apply to your local force, or if you live outside the UK, apply to your last force of residency.

To find out what information Cambridgeshire Constabulary holds about you, we ask that you complete a form which enables us to obtain all the information we need from you to process your application.

The form will need to be returned in the post as we need your signature and your application will need to be accompanied by:

  • Two proofs of identity which between them show your full name, date of birth, signature and current address
  • A cheque or postal order for £10 sterling

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE : The law permits us 40 days to provide the information from receipt of a complete application. The process usually takes about four weeks and cannot be accelerated. However, you will receive a letter shortly after we receive your application, which will explain this. You will be able to present this to any organisation who has asked you to apply as proof of application and timescales.

A request for information held on the Police National Computer (PNC) will be sent direct from ACRO (ACPO Criminal Records Office) based in Fareham. ACRO will reply directly to you at the postal address you give on the form. The reply will take the form of a letter which has a watermark and two blue bands to identify it as an authentic record.

Please note that duplicate responses can only be issued if the original has not been received at the address specified and only for a period of one month after issue of the original. It is therefore important that the Information Access office is contacted on 0345 456456 4 as soon as possible following non-receipt of a response upon expiry of the 40 day period.

To request a form please call 0345 456456 4 and ask for the Information Access Office where you can leave your details and we will forward a form to you. The form can be sent to you either via post or email.
